Podcast -

Get out!"

You are right when it comes to size. If you read this week junior vikatan, you could see Maran's interview where he has told that tamil OCR is going to released soon that too free of cost( Open Source)

Voice on Wings

anzer, OCR is 'image-to-text' conversion i.e. if you have a hard copy document, you can scan it and convert the resulting image into a text file, by doing 'character recognition'. It's no doubt valuable, but not very relevant in this context. What I was referring to for podcasts is 'text-to-speech' conversion. There are software like iSpeak It which convert a (English) text file into an MP3 sound file. Guess it's going to take eons to create such things in Tamil.

There also some advantages in hosting it as an MP3 file. The voice is more human :) Effects like background music etc. can be added. Discussion-like like content can be created (interviews, plays etc.). Moreover, with broadband making a slow headway everywhere, downloading files of a few MB size may not be much of an issue. When you automate such downloads using podcatchers, it just happens in the background, without your involvement. Thanks for dropping by :)
